CUUPS - CUUPS - Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans, Neighborhood Church Chapter. Neighborhood CUUPS works within the church community to provide an earth-centered pagan spiritual perspective. Our activities have included a Day of the Dead service, Winter Solstice and May Pole ritual celebrations for children, and occasional educational activities for adults. Committees form the backbone of our Church, and, from the standpoint of the individual congregant, participation in a committee means contact with people of common interests in a small group setting. Terms on committees generally start June 1st, along with our fiscal year, but one can ask to join any time and negotiate a trial period as you wish.
Committees with a star (*) are especially in need of new volunteers. "Questions?" indicates that a new chair will be chosen soon and that the person listed can answer questions about the work of the committee.
Adult Programs (Religious Exploration):*
Plans, organizes and facilitates classes, workshops, a lecture/discussion series (Sunday Focus) and special events contributing to the personal and/or spiritual growth of adults of all ages. Committee members identify issues of interest to the church community, then decide on the programs and leasers, set the schedule, and arrange publicity and location. The committee's sources include published UU materials, special interests and talents of church members, and the outside community. Committee meets monthly.

Oversees the interior and exterior decoration of our campus. Initiates and approves additions or alterations to the buildings and grounds while preserving the original conceptual design and spirit of the church's physical environment. Meetings only as needed.
Chair: Cesareo PerezBookstore:*
Stocks and runs the bookstore cart, from which books are sold on a nonprofit basis following each Sunday service. Books from our UU Beacon Press are made available, as well as other titles of potential interest to the congregation.
Coffee Committee:*
Members are responsible for the beverages at the Coffee Hour after Sunday church services. This involves keeping the supplies on hand, preparing and serving the beverages, and cleaning up afterwards. No regular meetings.

The committe plans and organizes a yearly retreat at the de Benneville Pines Camp in the San Bernardino Mountains in late June. We are looking for volunteers who have previously attended the event to assist in planning the program, registration, publicity, et cetera.

Provides one of our ties with the Unitarian Universalist Association by informing us of denominational issues to be voted on at the yearly General Assembly. Also ensures that our church has representatives at both the General Assembly and Pacific South West District Meetings. We are looking for members with interest in, and ties to, other UU churches, especially churches in the PSWD (Nevada, Arizona and Southern California).

Oversees the church's income and expenditures, investments and general financial condition. Prepares an annual budget proposal for the Board of Trustees, and makes recommendations for annual and special fundraising plans. Also advises on the funding and reconciliation of expenditures not included in the budget. Meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m.

Cares for the church grounds, supplementing the work of the paid gardening crew. This committee maintains the blooming garden, coordinates the watering schedule, prunes the trees and runs the composting program. A love of gardens is what we look for in volunteers: the rest can be learned on the job. Two (2) hours twice per month would help a lot, and scheduling of hours is flexible.

Provides welcome to newcomers through welcome table offerings, the Neighborhood Church brochure, greeters, name tag service, orientation sessions, New UU classes, Bring-a-Friend Sunday, the introduction of New Members ceremony andthe New Members' Dinner. We are looking for telephoners, people with teaching skills, cooks, and above all, those who like to be welcoming. Meetings are on the 1st Sunday of every month from 10-11 a.m.

In conjucition with Music Director Stephen Grimm, this committee provides support to the church's various music programs. The committee sponsors an organ concert series, hosts receptions for Pasadena Pro Musica concerts, and supports the Neighborhood Chorus and Children's Choir of Neighborhood Church. Meets on the 1st Sunday of every month between services.

At Neighborhood Church, we seek to be a community in which we not only connect with each other during good or ordinary times, but also support each other in times of crisis, illness, or other special need. The Personal Concerns Committee serves as a connecting link between those in need, and those who want to reach out to them. We arrange for a hom-cooked meal, a ride to the doctor's office, a ride to church, et cetera.

Recommends personnel policies for the Board, conducts salary surveys, and recommends salary levels, working conditions and fringe benefits. The committee is looking for those who have familiarity with personnel policies and practices. The committee meets monthly as needed, usually on a Wednesday night.

Handles the ongoing maintenance of the church plant, as well as planning improvements in conjuction with other committees, such as Grounds, Aesthetic Concerns and Preservation. One or two people are sought who are free to meet on weekdays as needed.

Members of this comittee are responsible for setting up the sound system, monitoring the sound levels and recording during Sunday Services. No meetings, but on-the-job training. We also set up for occasional weddings and funerals.

Volunteers sell audio tapes of our Sunday services on the patio just minutes after they are recorded, so it is possible to share our worship with shut-ins, relatives adn friends on the same day. No meetings; on-the-job training.

This committee provides ushers for Sunday worship services. Ushers distribute and collect hymnals and orders of service; assisting the seating of churchgoers, and collect the weekly offering.

Plans revenue-generating events for the church. Flea Market (Nov.); Winter event to be announced (Jan.); Book Fair (March); theater outings in and ongoing sale of grocery store scrip. Volunteers for one or more events are welcome. The committee meets on the first Wednesday of the month.
