Who are we?

The Seventh Principle Steering Committee is an environmental action group within Neighborhood Church’s Outreach Program looking for ways to align with the UU Seventh Principle: “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.” We take our name from the Seventh Principle Project, an affiliate organization of the UUA.

What are our goals?

Our goal is to find ways of progressing towards a more sustainable, environmentally sound future. We have initiated the process for Neighborhood Church to become a Green Sanctuary - a congregation that lives out its commitment to the Earth by creating a sustainable life style for its members as individuals and as a faith community. For more information, visit http://www.uuaspp.org/gspoverview.html. Becoming a Green Sanctuary is a long-term commitment, and will involve undertaking activities in the areas of worship and education, as well as environmental justice and sustainable living.

What else do we do?

We see our role as an umbrella organization, supporting important efforts already in progress. Information about existing groups here at Neighborhood, and upcoming events, appears below. In addition, we are initiating a few new activities to promote environmental awareness. We hope to serve as a contact point and clearinghouse for a range of environmental issues and actions. We will be sponsoring monthly tables at the coffee hour after services highlighting many of our goals and activities, and encouraging a wider involvement of the church congregation.

Please join us!

We are seeking your active support! To get informed or become involved, please sign our sign-up list (available at the monthly tables).
