Welcome to Neighborhood Unitarian Universalist Church, a vibrant and growing congregation of the progressive religious tradition. In Pasadena since 1885, Neighborhood Church seeks to empower it members to live full and meaningful lives of service, integrity and joy. We are a diverse and welcoming congregation, honoring both families and single persons, believing in religious freedom, tolerance and reason.
Unitarian Universalism has its origins in early Christianity, but its primary birth was in America at the beginning of the Republic. Unitarian refers to the belief that Jesus was fully human but not divine; that is, we rejected the doctrine of the Trinity. Universalism refers to the belief that God is a God of love and so there will be universal salvation. These two progressive movements joined in 1961.
Ralph Waldo Emerson, John Adam, Susan B. Anthony, Thomas Jefferson - these are some of our ancestors. Today we value humanists, theists, pagans, agnostics, mystics, those who find meaning in the New Testament or in Buddhist teachings among our members. We urge everyone to find the spiritual expression most meaningful to their own life, and then to join together to create a more just and peaceful world.
Worship services and religious education are at 9:30 and 11:30, September through June, and at 10:00 in July and August.
