Current Projects

Neighborhood Queer Youth Project
Starts Saturday, Oct 29th at Neighborhood Unitarian Universalist Church in Pasadena. The groups runs from 3:00-5:00 every Saturday and will meet in Room 23. Snacks will be provided. This groups serves LGBTQQ teenagers (13-18) from Pasadena and surrounding areas and will offer a safe space for LGBTQQ Youth to talk and explore important issues in their lives. Alliance for the Care of Abused Children
NC has "adopted" 2 Social Workers who make known needs of clients in crisis. "Scroungers" supply various new and/or gently used items for the children. *NC Contact: Marianne Dryden


Social Justice Advocacy Group (SJAG)
This group provides information and opportunities to act on various issues of justice. Meets 3rd Tuesday each month; staffs SJAG table on Sunday. Co-chairs: *Dick Smoak and *Bonnie Blustein


ˇAPRENDAMOS! Let's Learn! is an academic enrichment program for "off track" LAUSD K-3 students. Held in the First UU Church of LA, the program offers a safe, stimulating learning environment & welcomes volunteers to listen to children read on a 1 on 1 basis. Join us! *Ruth Ryan

Beyond War
This team is meeting at NC to focus on long term, non-partisan strategies to achieve peace. Meets 2nd Wednesday of the month in Room 23. *Rhoads (Rody) Stephenson

Project Harvest Hope - Transylvania dairy project. *Audrey Vaughan

Compassionate Heart Learning Center is a project of the Altadena Nazarene Church. Volunteer to serve Friday night Family meals, youth athletic program. *Tom Petersmeyer

SEE PICTURES! Neighborhood Church "Raise the Roof" project advocates for affordable housing & travels to Tijuana twice yearly to work with Esperanza International building homes with residents in its program. Next date: October 28-30, 2005. Contact: Tres Izzard. NC collaborates with the Unitarian Universalist Affordable Housing Corporation, Affordable Housing Services of Pasadena & Rebuilding Together - Pasadena.

First UU LA Food Bank: 7-9AM 1st & 3rd Saturday prepare & distribute food to needy people. Map on Advocacy table & kiosk. To meet at NC at 6:30AM, e-mail *Lopez-Leining Family

Union Station Foundation: Pasadena shelter for homeless people. NC members & friends cook dinner on the 2nd Monday & Friday of each month. Contact: Beth Colcord
Make sandwiches at Neighborhood Church Wednesday night during the summer.

Friends in Deed House is a project of the Ecumenical Council of Pasadena Area Churches that provides donated food & clothing to needy people & operates a bad weather shelter. Contributions can be taken to 444 Washington Blvd. For hours open: 626-797-2402

Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of California: This new project addresses legislative issues in our state. *Jennie Smith

Interfaith Communities United for Justice & Peace seeks methods consistent with UU Principles to develop peaceful alternatives to war & violence. NC Contact: *Bonnie Blustein

Unitarian Universalist Service Committee - UUSC: leads efforts to achieve human rights locally & globally. *Lee Lipinski

Jackson Elementary School: "Adopted" by NC to provide unmet student needs. Volunteers needed for tutoring, garden project, donate library books. *Monica Villegas

Young & Healthy: Provides access to health care for uninsured & underserved children in the Pasadena area. *Shelby Rector & Lenore Stevens

Neighborhood Alliance of Bi-sexual, Gay, Lesbian, Straight & Transgendered People - meet 3rd Wednesday for social support, education & advocacy. "Out at the Movies" shows films with GLBT themes the third friday of every other month. *Terri Hopper and *Ellen Ray
